Over the last several months, the Tonkawa Tribe have taken tremendous steps in preserving an irreplaceable part of their past through the historic purchase of their homeland Naton Samox in Gause, Texas. Our film crew has been incredibly honored to be a part of capturing their journey and  were proud to present on how this purchase came to be at the Texas Historical Commissions Real Places Conference in Austin this week!

Our producers Bob O'Dell, Andrew C Richey, and Felipe Adams all spoke to how forming strong relationships with both the Tribe and other organizations, such as the El Camino Real de los Tejas Trail Association, led to the Tribe reclaiming this sacred land. Now it will not only be available for the Tribe to once again use for powwows and other sacred traditions, but it is graciously being offering it as a protected park so that the larger public may continue to learn about and enjoy the culture and history of this monumental place.

Though they have been gone a long time, the Tonkawa, who once stood shoulder to shoulder with us to help protect our great city, have once again chosen the path that continues to let us all stay together.
